5 Easy Ways to Integrate Sustainability Into Your Daily Life

Making the move towards a more sustainable daily life can feel burdensome and daunting. For many, sustainability is uncharted territory, a way of thinking and existing that, for whatever reason, was not emphasized in school, our parents weren’t educated in, and that we feel so unfamiliar with, we don’t even know where to begin. Amidst life’s unpredictability and many challenges, people are often, understandably, put off by even the slightest bit of change in routine for fear of what it might entail….how do we approach what feels unapproachable?

Here’s where we’d like to help.

Below, we’ve outlined 5 tips for living a more sustainable daily life. These tips are not an all-encompassing, air-tight guide to living for the environment; however, we hope that through these simple life changes, we can dismantle the barrier to entry of sustainable living. We all have to start somewhere and you might just find that it’s a lot simpler than you thought!

5 TIPS:

  1. Make the switch to LED light bulbs! Quality LED light bulbs use 75% less energy and last 25 times longer than traditional incandescent bulbs, according to the U.S. Department of Energy. Our choice: Philips Hue
  2. Stay hydrated in style! Invest in a chíc reusable water bottle. According to the Container Recycling Institute, more than 60 million plastic bottles end up in landfills and incinerators every day. Our choice: Hydroflask
  3. Always keep a reusable tote and/or produce bag on you for impromptu shopping trips. According to the Center for Biological Diversity, it takes nearly 500 years for one plastic bag to partially degrade in a landfill. Our choice: Baggu
  4. If you’re shopping, shop ethically! Purchasing products that are fair trade encourages environmentally friendly production methods and ethical working conditions for laborers.
  5. Take inventory of your clothes! Refamiliarize yourself with your closet every month to get creative with pieces you already own and consume less! This is also a great way to declutter your space and donate clothes you no longer want or use.
